Shakuhachi…yes please

Macrame Fringe Shift Dress AUD $350

Alligator Up Down Dress AUD $200

Tease Me Long Square Pocket Dress AUD $180
*Available from https://shakuhachi.net

I’m not sure how or why I have missed this Australian brand, but I recently came across it thanks to the lovely ladies at Kingdom of Style. And I can honestly say I am in LOVE. Never before have I come across a brand that I could wear anything in the collection. The Pre-fall and Winter 11 collection is quite a directional look with a neutral colour palette, and some splashes of lovely mustard and moss green. But the dresses and fringed waistcoats are going to be a must-have in my Ibiza suitcase.

Thanks to a beautiful hotel on San Antonio Bay, my bank balance is looking a little bleak so in the meantime I am making do with another Australian brand (should I b considering emigrating?!) Reverse. I’ve recently just purchased this dress and kaftan from asos.com They haven’t arrived yet, so I’ll keep you posted on how they look.

Reverse Coral Print Kaftan £42

Reverse Fluoro Sequin Frill Top Dress £45
*Available from www.asos.com

In the meantime, I have some exciting news. I’m going on a diet. Ok so it’s not that exciting. I want to lose a little stone or so for my Café Mambo cutaway playsuit. And through extreme research have decided that coffee and Haribo are no longer the way forward. Weight Watchers is. I shall keep you in the loop!

J'adore...

*Fairground beaded dress by Dress Up Topshop £175

So this always happens…summer arrives, everyone piles on the broderie anglaise and sandals and I manage to find a sequinned, dark nights number that breaks my heart.

I must get this dress. Surely I can wear it with black glad sandals (trying hard to convince herself)…

My Quest To Be Blonde

So I've decided I'm giving up my dreams of looking like Megan Fox and reaching for the bleach for something a bit more summery. Think Cara Delevingne in the new Burberry Campaign crossed with the Olsen Twins. Well here's hoping fingers crossed.

My biggest worry however is my eyebrows, I'm slightly torn as to wether or not I can pull off the light hair and dark eyebrows. What do you lot think? I am a big fan of HD Brows and I don't know where I would be without them now, it's like tanning ADDICTIVE. They do however look fabulous on the gorgeous Cara Delevingne, but then again she is reaching Super Model Status.

New York with a View

I’m in a New York state of mind as I have just returned from one of my most favourite cities.  Like my fellow Six and the City blogger Ruby Woo, I’ve chosen some of my pics as on this trip I think I had the best New York view ever!

Starting with a trip up Empire State building to show my boyfriend the true wonders of New York (and of course I was looking for a ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ style moment with a Tiffany ring with New York at my feet, but alas no) we had a perfect day with blue skies and promising sunshine.

Onto Central park where my romantic notions were fulfilled with a rowing boat round the lake, again I was hoping for some more warning to be suitably clad in an appropriate nautical ensemble but off we went round the lake which allowed for the most peaceful view of central Manhattan

Now for the partying…..our night of rooftop views started with a Cosmopolitan (cliché I know but I had to do it!) in the rooftop lounge of the Roosevelt on Madison Avenue, Mad 46.  A little chilly at this stage of the year but will be a plethora of beauties come the high season.

Then, we moved uptown to Upper East side to my friends apartment where we drank champagne on her rooftop terrace at sunset.  As I gulped down my jealousy and bubbles I made a promise to return again and again to this most wonderful place.

I'm in love...

They arrived…

And boy were they worth the wait. My Jeffrey Campbell glitter Lita boots have been the talking point of my weekend and are actually much more practical and comfortable than I imagined. I’ve already worn them with denim cut offs and a deep red vest (and the obligatory tons of jewellery) and have many more looks planned.

The glitter did worry me at first though, but one blast of Tresemme Freeze Hold and it looks set to stay!

Marina Abramovic...

On my travels I’ve spent time with fascinating people – the original 1970s hippies from Ibiza and Formenter, marker dwellers of Marrakech, Sri Lankan fishermen and their wives, but one person who has left a lasting impression is Marina Abramović; a Yuoslavian performance artisit who recently voted one of the top 100 woman in art, film, musi and fashion by The Guardian.

I first stumbled upon her last year at MOMA, after what can only be descibe as a life-changing bowl of primavera soup (but that is another blog).  It is pretty much impossibe to do her justice, you have to experince her to believe her, so if she comes to a town near you soon, please go and see her.

Here is a link that shows the impact she had on just some of the people who participated in her ‘Marina Abramović: The Artist Is Present" installation.

Shoes, Chaussures, Zapatos, Scarpas...

My name is Flossy and I’m a shoeaholic (well, I’m actually a bag, clothes, beauty and hair-aholic as well, but lets just stick with the shoes for now.)

My first shoe memory was when I was a little girl and I got my first pair of school shoes – I felt so grown up and I put them at the end of my bed when I went to sleep. They had patterns on the sole and when you walked in the mud or the snow they made these really cool markings. Fast forward a few years to my first ‘grown up’ shoe shop. I went with a friend after school and caught the bus into town where with my money burning a hole in my pocket, I purchased the most amazing pair of red patent shoes – completely impractical as they couldn’t be worn at school but so cool.

My shoe addiction continued with far to many pairs and then one day I caught the designer bug. I bought a pair of shoes that actually cost more than a weeks wages (bear in mind this was quite a few years ago and I was still living at home -  and I moved out when I was 19!) I was slightly embarrassed by the cost, so knocked a fair bit off the price when anyone asked. to. I wore them one night when my boyfriend at the time and myself were invited to my boss’ house. Stupidly I forgot to take the price of the bottom – what was the first thing my boss’ wife noticed?  – The price of the shoes. She couldn’t believe I could buy shoes that cost such a lot of money when she had to shop in second hand shops. (Charity shops and vintage were things of the future) Red faced and lying through my teeth to my boss and my boyfriend (who nearly fainted) we made our excuses and left.

My designer addiction has continued – I’ll never forget my first pair of Gucci’s, Prada’s, Dior's, Dolce & Gabanna’s, Louboutin’s and Mui Mui’s, but my favourites and most comfortable of all are my Chanel shoes. I love them. I still have the very first pair I bought, and like childbirth I can remember every moment of the shopping experience. I have classic flat pumps, platforms, pointed toes and be-jewelled ones purchased for a special birthday. Even if I never wear them again they were worth it!

My name is Flossy and I’m a shoeaholic.

Pastel princess or bold and wild?

I’m a girly girl at heart, love all things makeup, fashion and scents. I must admit, my nails were never my pride and joy until about two years ago. I came across Barry M purely by chance and the bold colours attracted me instantly – I mean why would you want to have the same nail colour that everyone has? I’m all about following trends but I like to be that little bit different once in a  while and Barry M certainly has individuality written all over it!

Bad Rubywoo...

So, my fellow Six and the City ladies have shown me up in their regular and stylish updates. Between ongoing front door dilemmas and transitional wardrobe quandaries, life has been pretty full on. To gladiate-sandal or not? Questions like this have stopped me in my blogging tracks. But I’m back on it, so apologies all round.

Today I am reminiscing about a VST (very special trip) with my two best pals. This time last year we were checking into the Hudson Hotel in New York to spend two weeks doing what girls do best – losing cameras and generally causing mischief, with the odd piece of educational sightseeing thrown to keep our moral compass in tack (and our fathers proud).
So girls, and anyone who has visited this amazing place, these are for you.

Over and out,
Rubywoo

Summer stylin...

Ok so there was no more fighting it, summer is on its way and I need to get prepared before Topshop & co have nothing but a size 16 bikini top hanging limply on their rails.

So on Sunday I bit the bullet and started summer shopping. I am heading to Ibiza during the summer so needed to stock up on all things beachy. As you know, bright colours aren’t my forte but I’ve made a real effort. My first few purchases are above, I’m still searching for the perfect sandals. Something black with maybe turquoise and silver jewels? If you know of any, share with this sista please…

Living the Rock & Roll Lifestyle

On Wednesday night I decided to release my inner rock chick, my friend and I had tickets to see welsh band The Blackout.  After a slight squabble with the bouncer I eventually managed to get myself a wristband and off to the bar! (Apparently being baby faced gets you nowhere!)

The liquid rooms is the teeniest venue ever, so it was pretty packed to the point where you could barley get through the door but I managed to squeeze myself through to the middle (bad idea, I completely forgot that mosh pits, heels and cider are never a good combination). The two support bands left that much of an impression on me that I can’t even remember who they where, all I can remember is that one of them sounded like a rubbish version of Gym Class Heroes back in Travie Mccoy’s Katy Perry lovin’ days. The Blackout however did not disappoint, although it has to be said that the crowd was pretty tame compared to what is has been every other time I’ve seen them that could have something to with the fact that everyone seemed to be there with their mum or dad, this made me feel really old and I’m only 20!

For all you lovelies I thought I’d leave you with an inside into my musical adventures. This is especially for Chelsea D who’s in preparation for her first ever rock show!
