Bank Holiday Bliss...

*The amazing Scotsman spa pool

*The Scotsman Hotel

On a recent trip to Edinburgh, I booked myself into the much talked about Scotsman Hotel Spa for a facial and massage which I am delighted to report was pretty special. . .helped by the stainless steel pool and slightly handsome swimming instructor. As he taught two children to swim, I couldn’t help but be spurred on by the drowning seven year old to my right. After an hour of showing off my swimming technique, it was time for my treatments.

The back massage was everything you could possibly want for an area, which you can barely see, and the Thalgo facial really felt it was reducing lines and increasing firmness. I’m not sure if it was the beautiful setting, or the competitive amounts of swimming but I drifted away into a blissful land where Burberry jackets grew on trees and summer holidays organised themselves.

The Hangover 2 - drink up sit back . .

I just had to share my experience of The Hangover 2 which I went to see last night. Now, I'm never the type to go and see a film the minute it comes out but recluctantly I agreed and off I went with nachos, popcorn and juice in hand (to keep me occupied as I fidget 24/7 in the cinema)! Although the film was funny, for me a sequel is never as good as the original and in this case that was proved right. I guess I built my hopes up for this to be amazing, as Thailand is such a beautiful place but unfortunately for me .. the nachos proved to be better this time .. x

Sensitive Issue...

Just over three years ago, my skin changed dramatically. Almost overnight in fact. It started out with a small irritation around my nose and within three days it had spread to my cheeks and around my mouth. I was devastated – I didn’t know what to do. I had always looked after my skin and had received many compliments. I loved facials, I used great products and I NEVER went to bed with my make up on.

I went to see a homeopath and a doctor – I thought something had to work. The homeopath gave me cream and herbs to drink – they tasted disgusting but did seem to help a little. After I had finished the herbs and the cream, it wasn’t 100% better. The skin on my body was also red and patchy, I couldn’t wear make up and all I wanted to do was to cover my head with a bag. I decided to see a doctor and as I couldn’t get an appointment with my GP for two weeks I went to one of the walk in surgeries, which you pay for.

The doctor was lovely and rather than prescribe pills and potions she explained to me that she thought I had rosacea. I had heard of this before but wasn’t really sure of the symptoms. She suggested ways to treat it - to find out what my triggers were and to avoid them. For me it can be spicy food or too much heat. I’m not big on sunbathing so that was OK – now I wear a hat and factor 50 in the sun. Steroid cream is normally prescribed – but I wasn’t keen on that. She advised me to use Aveeno cream on my face and to use Sanex in my bath and shower. Both are quite brilliant. I started off using Aveeno cream on my face and Sanex Hypo Allergenic in my bath and shower and three years later I’m still using them.

It’s been trial and error. My first goal was to be able to wear make up again, which didn’t take long. Then I changed my cleanser, toner, serums and moisturiser and through a process of elimination I have found what suits me – and I do think it’s very individual. What works for me might not work for other rosacea sufferers. I can instantly feel when I’m about to get a break out and treat it accordingly. Elemis Daily Redness Cream is fantastic and so is StriVectin Overnight Facial Resurfacing Serum.

Quick fix mani

*product kindly supplied by Kiss Nails

So last week God certainly answered my prayers after I had moaned about the state of my nails - how could I let them be nothing more than perfect? Then a small package arrived from the wonderful Kiss  USA, a company who specialise in natural looking nails.

The box contained 28 nails with 14 different sizes, Pink glue and a small nail file. When I apply nails like these I always tend to bond my fingers together however with the self apply tab on each nail I happily avoided this. Most of the sizes were pretty much exact to my own nail and only a couple needed filed. 15 minutes later my nails looked like I had an hour long Mani - a very happy Madam Butterfly!

                                                              * excuse the stumpy fingers (it's just the angle, I promise)

So would I recommend these? Of course I would. I'm usually very apprehensive with press on nails but  these ones are very practical and just the right length. (Very important when you struggle to pick up your credit card!) The are available for £8.16 from Boots and come in a variety of different designs.

Caught the bug...

Flossy has well and truly given me the home interiors bug. I LOVE these neons by Tracey Emin, the only problem is their £60,000+ pricetag.

Maybe there's some sort of nightclass I can take and create my own?

Bloggers Block...

Hello readers – huge apologies from Flossy but I’ve been suffering from a combination of Blogger's Block and just being too damn busy!

I promise to make amends. It’s really been full on at work and at home - I just seem to be chasing my tail – I know it’s a poor excuse but May has just gone by in a flash. I’m hoping to have some R&R over the weekend and I’ll have lots of thoughts, opinions and views for you and get myself right back on track. I’m wondering if it’s because I’m not loving this summers trends and find myself more excited by the prospect of a new Louis Ghost Chair in smoke grey than a fluorescent, stripped, floral maxi skirt – not like me at all - I know.

So to continue with my homely theme, I’ve included a few of my favourite things from around my house –

Vivienne Westwood Tea Set
This takes pride of place in my kitchen – haven’t actually used it more for decoration.  Nor have I tried to eat the knitted cupcakes!

Lanvin Love Book and Pencils
I also have the pen to this set which I use all the time. I love the notebook and pencils – they are so cool. Alber Elvaz is such a brilliant illustrator as well as amazing designer.

Gold Buddha
Not really sure if this is a Buddha but it’s shiny black head makes me think of Buddha. I bought this at Barcelona Airport. It’s very calm and serene and sits welcoming people into my house. I might be materialistic but I’m spiritual too!

Zandra Rhodes Plate – I was given this by Zandra a very long time ago. It’s a limited edition No 23 of 100 so very precious. It has pride of place in my bathroom

John Rocha Crystal – I have several pieces of the beautiful black Waterford Crystal designed by John Rocha- this is one of my favourites.

So on Monday evening, the Six and The City girls got invited along to see Vidal Sassoon The Movie, a special preview. One word - WOW. With our ben&jerry's (4 scoops of course) and goodybags filled with Sassoon goodies we toddled into the cinema ready for the movie to begin. Who new a film could be so inspiring, so much so we all want a Sassoon haircut and to become hairdressers. Comparing his previous work to the architecture of famous landmarks across the globe was incredible - who knew you could incorporate a the Sydney Opera House into a haircut - mental. We were glued to it, something that never happens for me - I'm a fidget at heart.

So if you looking for inspiration for a haircut - go and see this movie. I'm even considering chopping my long blonde locks to a sharp bob - but will I? Let me call Vidal and see what he thinks. (oh and I'll update on the Sassoon shampoo and conditioner soon)

Flutter Those Lashes

Before anyone reads this post I would like to apologise for the mess that is my eyebrows, they are now some what disgustingly overgrown and awaiting their next H.D Brows treatment.

I am very much an eyeshadow girl so it is with great pleasure that I introduce you to this new gem I have stumbled upon.

This fabulous eye compact comes with enough eyeshadows to create three different types of natural eye looks, a handy little double ended brush and tutorial cards. So even if you're not an eyeshadow addict like me you'll be able to blend your way to beautiful eyes!

The first look I created was the "Classic" look, the instructions are so easy to follow you really can't go wrong. I often find that using concealer or foundation as an eyeshadow base helps to keep the eyeshadow lasting all day long. As with many eyeshadows I often find that half way through the day that it looks nothing like it did earlier that morning, these however stay put!

Notice on the card how it tells you to "press" the eyeshadow onto the lid, this is a fab tip especially if you've already done the rest of your makeup as we all know the dreaded feeling when your makeup looks perfect until you realise that you have eyeshadow all over your face.

The next look and probably my favorite look is the "Day look", it looks more sparkly and shimmery in the picture than it actually does, I think it must be the flash on my camera!

Last but not least we have the "Fashion" look, I LOVE the golden/bronze colour in this it looks amazing on blue eyes.

Now that I've found it this product is definitely one of my new favorites, much easier than carrying around my usual 5 single eyeshadows in my makeup bag. I love the 3 different variations of one look, although you could even mix them up to create your own looks if your feeling a bit more confident so if you feel like becoming an eyeshadow GENIUS then I suggest you try this kit and get practicing.

Two Faced Cosmetics have stands in most Boots, Debenhams and House of Fraser stores. I think my next purchase may be the "Big Fat Lip Injection" I'm always looking for a way of enhancing my pout, I think it could rival Ms Beckham's now!

What's your make up essentials?

Lot's of love

Ps. Again please excuse the eyebrows, I'll post my H.D brow results after my appointment! I promise they don't always look like this!

Gypsy Rocker

Pretty much in love with Topshop's Gypsy Rocker collection, this leather jacket will just have to fulfill my Burberry dreams until I have enough for the real deal.

This broderie anglaise crop top will be perfect with my vintage Levi denim shorts, Doc Martins and Ray Bans. The perfect outfit to see me through the festival season. Although god know what I'll do if it rains, at least I know I'll look good! I'm also in desperate need of a flower headband if anyone knows of any?! Something kitsch to add to my gypsy/hippy look!

Spanx me...

*Thank you lingerieplease.co.uk

*Spanx tights-they really have thought of everything

It is a sad day when the time arrives for needing a pair of Spanx. Not needing them in a Hervé Léger kind of way, but just needing them, full stop. So when the kind people of www.lingerieplease.co.uk sent over samples, I faced my fear and jumped in – slowly.

It was kind of a strange experience at first but then they began to grow on me. They smoothed and toned in an instant and were comfortable to wear. The only downside came when they were removed and reality set back in.

Long live the Spanx.
